Lattice House was designed in response to the challenge of creating a residential building in a high density area. Each constraint yielded unique design opportunities that were implemented into the final design product. This was my first experience designing under residential setbacks with a variety of unit types and modular unit reproduction. The main feature of the design is the large latticed facade that spans the street side of the building, and sections of the South side. The latticing was designed with the intention of being covered with vining plants, creating an organic feeling while screening the building and providing privacy to the inhabitants.
This project was designed with the intention of bringing organic, compact, and comfortable living spaces to the Cambridge, MA area.
The building features a number of living spaces varying in size, occupancy, light saturation, and privacy.
The surrounding buildings cause the site to be shaded and occupants to be easily seen. The design of Lattice House features a large latticing facade offering a maximization of privacy while allowing natural light to enter the living spaces.
